Akagera National Park

This is a low altitude Rwandan national park, consisting of Savannah grassy lands, numerous lakes, River Akagera, wooden bushy Savannah, swamps, and marshlands. Its this very wide range of physical habitats, that makes the Akagera national park, the home of more than 525 recorded bird species. These include Yellow-backed Wevers, Brown-backed Weavers, Fish Eagles, swamp Flycatchers, African Jacana, Blue-breasted Bee-eaters, Pied Kingfishers, Crested Cranes, Swallows, Kites, Sunbirds, Starlings, Secred Ibis, Pellicans, and Malabou Storks.

The birding icons of the Akagera national park are the Shoebill stork, and the Pypyrus Genolek.
The most productive birding area of Akagera national park, is the section around the shores of Lakes Ihema, Shakani, Birengero, and Hago.
