Lake Naivasha & Hells Gate N/P
Cycling Hell's Gate National Park is a tiny park located between Naivasha Lake and Longonot and Suswa volcanoes and it is an ideal venue for a weekend retreat far from the urban life of Nairobi.The park provides a variety of wildlife, unusual flora and many species of birds and is one of the two only kenyan parks where climbing, walking and biking are allowed.Hell's Gate in Naivasha is an ideal getaway place enroute to Lake Nakuru or the Masai Mara.Visitors here have the choice of driving while game vieing, camping, cycling and rock climbing
Lake Naivasha / Hells Gate N/P Fish Eagle Hotel (FB)
Day 1. Early breakfast and if weather allows walk to the shores of the lake for early morning boat rides. The African Fish Eagles herald with their memorable ringing cry and the chorus of the bird song continues through-out the day. Boat rides are an ideal activity to spot the many species of waterfowl and brilliantly colored kingfishers as well as walking excursions on the nearby Crescent Island which has some wildlife.
Return by mid morning take your bike and ride to Hells gate N/ park a unique park where walking /riding is done in the middle of wildlife Giraffes, zebras, warthogs and many types of gazelles are found here.
The first part of this walk is done in typical flat African savannah in a volcanic area with huge rock boundaries. There are camphor and acacia trees all over and this is where to look for the giraffe as they mainly feed on them. Picnic lunch before the last part, which is done in the Hell's Gate Gorge by descending into a steep canyon with running water from geysers and wild vegetation. The climax of the day is in walking in the Side Gorge where the rocks have split to leave only a walking path. We climb back to the Rangers post for transfer back to the hotel.
