22 Days Two Wheels Across Savannah

A cycling tour designed to get you out of the box, enrich your life and introduce you to the rich diversity of the people, their culture and the environment of the area. Kentan cycling programs are designed to provide participants an opportunity to learn more about the world at a person-to-person level not usually available to tourist. Itineraries highlight the cultural, historical, economic and physical diversity of the area.

Nairobi Serian Hotel (HB)

Day 1: Upon arrival at the airport you will be received by our representative at the airport, transferred to hotel for dinner and overnight.

Nairobi Ole Serian Hotel (HB)

Day 2: After breakfast meet your guides and all support staff, briefing, and handover bikes. To test the bikes you will have Nairobi excursions, riding via the Eastern by-pass to Kibera Slums, Jamhuri Park, Karen Blixen Museum to Giraffe centre for lunch. Ride back via bomas of Kenya to Nairobi N/P headquarters-Safari walk. Proceed later to your hotel.

Route: Serian Hotel – Carnivore Restaurant –Langata – Kibera slums- Jamhuri Park (paved road 8km)
Jamhuri park –Karen Blixen –Giraffe centre (Tarmac road 5km) Giraffe Centre – Bomas of Kenya-Nairobi Safari Walk –Serian Hotel (4km tarmac 2km paved road)

Machakos Shanbird Hotel (FB)

Day 3. Depart after breakfast to Machakos, riding along the Mombasa road to divert at Chumbi. Continue through paved road up to Mua hills. Scenic view of the vast Masai plains,Mt. Ol Doinyo
Sabuk and the Nairobi metropolitan. Ride down to Machakos past the heavly cultivated landscape to Machakos town. Dinner and overnight.

Route: Serian Hotel – Mlolongo –Athi River –Lukenya –Manzoono Rd Juction - (Tarmac road 50km)
Manzoono Rd Juction –Mua Hills (10km paved road) Mua hills farmlands –Kaloleni - Machakos town (40km tarmac road)

Machakos – Wamunyu Wamunyu Hotel (FB)

Day 4. Depart Machakos after breakfast with packed lunch modern and traditional methodologies of soil conservation and afforestration enroute. Wamunyu the origin of Akamba woodcarving to see how woodcarving started in this part of Kenya. Learn some woodcarving skills and participate in Akamba traditional chores.

Later ride to Katangi to see a workshop for Women Kiondo weaving and embroidery. Picnic lunch after this participative and busy day drive to a sacred place where nature has defied science. You see how contradicting when water is poured downhill and climbs uphill causing an unbelievable scene. Later check to the Hotel for dinner and overnight. Route: Machakos- Masii –Makutano -Wamunyu (60Km paved road).

Wamunyu –Mbooni -Kikima Kikima Guest House (FB)

Day 5. After breakfast, check on the bikes then depart to the greener parts of this region. Riding past breath –taking hills and river vallys dotted with homesteads and small percels of cultivated land. Modern and traditional methodologies of soil conservation and afforestration. Stop over on the way to appreciate greetings from the locals at market centres and school children. Picnic lunch en-route
Route:Wamunyu –ride back to Masii town –Tawa town- Mbooni-Kikima (35km tarmac & 35km paved road).

Mbooni-Kikima BTC Guest House (FB)

Day6. Depart after breakfast to Wote town riding across scenic country side with extensive forest cover. Stop on the way to appreciate greetings from locals and photography. Picnic lunch en route to arrive in the afternoon to check in the hotel .Short walking excursions at the busy market. Dinner and overnight.
Route: Kikima – Utangwa Junction –Wote town (20km tarmac & 40km paved road).

Wote - Emali Kidu Hotel & Guest House (FB)

Day 7. Early breakfast and depart to Emali town. Ride across the changing landscape from dry to green forested mountains and breath-taking river valleys. On the way you will pass through busy markets with various agricultural food stuffs,fruits,livestock,chicken been sold.Proceed to arrive late afternoon.
Route: Wote –Kilala Junction – Matiliku Market –Emali Mombasa Rd (75km)

Amboseli N/P Kibo Safari Camp (FB)

Day8. Depart after early breakfast to Amboseli N/P at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa's
Highest mountain. Ride across the vast wilderness under the shadows of Kilimanjaro with occasional encounter with Masai herdsmen. Stop on the way to greet the locals who are fascinated with the riders and the bikes. At times you will ride together with the locals/Masai with their black Mamba bicycles. Arrive at Mpirikani shoping centre for lunch. Later board the vehicles and drive to Amboseli N/P for late afternoon game drives. Proceed to the camp for dinner and overnight.
Route: Emali – Landi –Mpirikani (60km tarmac).

Amboseli N/P Kibo Safari Camp (FB)

Day9. Dawn game drives before breakfast. The snows of the mountain forms a majestic backdrop to one of Kenya's most popular spectacular displays of wildlife - lion, elephant, leopard, cheetah, buffalo and host of plains game, creating Kenya's most sought after photographer's paradise. Afternoon extensive game drives and rest. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Entonet Village (Eco-Tourism Project) Mama Africa Eco-Tented Camp (FB)

Day10. Breakfast check out and drive to Mama Africa Tented Camp at the forest glades of Mt. Kilimanjaro to arrive by mid morning. Take your bikes for Afternoon excursions to Ngaitole view point and back via Makutano shopping centre and the Lutheran & Catholic churches.

Stop-over at Lutheran hill view-point for photography great views of Amboseli plains, Chyulu and Taita hills at the horizon Proceed to Entonet Primary School to meet students and teachers for cultural exchange. Leave the bikes at theschool and drive to the camp for lunch. Later in the afternoon ride to Nakoro hill for breath-taking view of Amboseli basin, Mt. Kilimanjaro massif and sun set. Return to the camp for dinner and overnight. Route: Country side riding (6Km)
Entonet Village Mama Africa Eco-Tented Camp (FB) Day 11.

Wake up early to view the rugged peak of Mt.Kilimannjaro; Mawenzi, Shira peak to the west and the vast wilderness of the Amboseli plains and Chyulu & Taita hills. After breakfast drive to Rongai Kenya / Tanzania border, after immigration process enter Tanzania, full day of riding excursions in the cool beautiful artificial , natural forest and Kilimamawe lava flow at the shadows of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The tour to Orkaswa the only remaining wildlife corridor between Mt. Kilimanjaro N/P & Amboseli N/P. Return to Mama Africa Eco-Tented camp via Tengia –Kilongoss-Lolorashi heath centre. Route: Country side riding (30Km)

Rombo Group Ranch Olowuaru Lion Camp (FB)

Day 12. Depart early after breakfast riding across the corn farms and homesteads to Loitokitok town. Proceed down past various shoping centres with busy markets and people working in their farms to Rombo- Olowuaru Lion Camp. Stop over at Maili Tatu primary school a beneficiary of our cycling tours.Chech in at the camp for late afternoon driving and walking game drives and cultural immersions. Rombo group ranch borders Tsavo west N/P and boost a huge population of elephants. Route: Entonet- Loitokitok – Illasit – Entarara – Rombo – Maili Tatu- Olowuaru Lion Camp (80km paved road)

Lake Chala-Taita Hills Taita Hills Lodge (FB)

Day 13. After breakfast drive to Lake Chala. Like Lake Jipe it is shared with Tanzania a gem of a fresh water lake hidden in its own crater and whose out- standing beauty is therefore easily missed, although only a short distance from the Taveta. Wildlife found in the area includes crocodiles in Lake Chala. After some excursions take your bikes and ride to Taita hills game sanctuary via Taveta and between Tsavo West and East National parks. Picnic lunch enroute. Arrive late afternoon at the sanctuary.

Tsavo East N/P Voi Safari Lodge (FB)

Day 14 . Dawn game drives at this private wildlife sanctuary, return for breakfast. Depart to Tsavo East N/P riding past the expansive sisal plantations to Voi where you will have lunch –Proceed further to Tsavo East park-gate. Leave the bikes at the gate and drive into the park to arrive to check in late afternoon. Tsavo East N/P with savannah grassland thorny bushes, swampy marshland unique landscape because of the Yatta Plateau formed from the lava that oozed from Ol Doinyo Sabuk Mountain.

A variety of animals can be seen: lions, leopard, cheetah, zebras, giraffes, serval, antelopes, kongoni, lesser kudu, oryx, klipspringer, impala, stripped hyena, ostriches, gazelles, buffalos, elephants and many more. Lugard Falls gush through a small fissure, narrow enough for the foolhardy to leap across, before dropping to Crocodile Point below, where the river changes its name to the Galana.

Mariakani -Kinango Camp / Guest House (FB)

Day 15 . Dawn game drives and a climb of the Mudanda rock for sun rise and wildlife team up at the dam below to quest their thirsry. Return for breakfast, check out and drive to Mariakani where you will disembark, take your bikes and ride to Kinango. A dry coastal region inhabited by one of the Mijikenda tribes of Duruma. Though apparently the landscape appears poor for human settlements villages are spread over with people going on with their day to day activities. Arrive Kinango late afternoon ,some cultural immersions as you mingle with the local people. Dinner and over night.

Kwale –Mukurumuji Viilage Mukurumuji camp (FB)

Day 16.After breakfast ride to Mukurumuji camp situated within the Sable Valley . Enjoy a guided bush walk, learning how to identify wildlife tracks and the local fauna. If we are lucky we may even see elephant and buffalo roaming in the hills. Relax in this tranquil camp and enjoy the magnificent views of the rainforest. We explore the local village and there is the opportunity to take part in a river walk.

Mukurumuji Mukurumuji camp (FB) (Bushwalk and Community Service)

Day 17. We start the day with a wildlife safety briefing after which we enjoy a guided Bushwalk to spot elephants (which roam freely in the area) and learn more about the natural use of local bushes, shrubs & trees. In the afternoon you will visit the local community and school and participate in school and community development programmes. In the afternoon you will visit a traditional local homestead of the coastal Swahili people, led by a specialist guide for a 'hands on' cultural experience. This could include basket weaving, roof thatching, and local food harvesting, preparation and cooking techniques. In the afternoon you & your children will learn all about goat herding skills and assist the local community in their techniques, this is one of those simple 'life moments' we mentioned earlier! . Return to the camp late afternoon.

Shimba Hills G/ Re & Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary Leopard Beach Resort & Spa (FB)

Day 18. After breakfast drive to Shimba hiils N/P for game drives.This beautiful Reserve of lush scenery has a unique and botanically rich coastal rainforest. It is most famous for its Sable Antelope that are found nowhere else in Kenya and is also a haven for the endangered Angolan Black and White Colobus Monkey. We enjoy a Game drive anda picnic lunch before transferring to Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary. The Sanctuary boasts the highest density (per km 2 ) of elephants in Africa. You will learn during game drives about elephant behavior and the threats they face. After lunch at the tree hotel drive to Diani to start your beach holiday.

Mombasa -Diani Beach Leopard Beach Resort & Spa (HB)

Day 19 -21.Leopard Beach Resort enjoys prime position on one of the world's most stunning beaches. Tropical gardens drop onto the white sandy shores of the Indian Ocean below where waters are calm due to the coral barrier reef – a haven for divers.

The resort offers a wide range of high quality accommodation, a choice of dining and entertainment venues – including the award winning ‘Chui Grill' – as well as extensive sporting and leisure facilities ranging from diving to golf.
