7 Days Mt Kilimanjaro Machame Route TrekkingMachame Route every now and then termed as the Whisky path. This is a celebrated track up steep paths through tremendous forests to gain a ridge leading finished the moorland zones to the Shira Plateau. It then traverses below the glaciated precipices of the Southern Icefields to meet the Barafu way to the peak elevation. Machame Machame Campsite (FB)Day 1. You will transfer in the morning from your hotel to Machame Gate, the drive takes about 2 hrs. After a briefing and registration you will begin the hike. It takes about 5 hrs to reach Machame Campsite - 3000m. Mt Kilimanjaro Shira Campsite (FB)Day 2 - Early i the morning you begin walking, first accross a valley with a nice stream then you climb up a steep ridge. The trail then drops down into a gorge before you begin ascending gently onto the moorland of Shira Plateau, often considered one of the most fascinating areas on the mountain. It will have been a long day and you'll be glad to reach Shira Campsite - 3840m. Mt Kilimanjaro Shira Campsite (FB)Day 3. This is the designated Acclimatization Day. There are two possible short excursions, one to the Shira Cathedral, and another takes you to Shira Cone. You'll have lunch back at the camp and the afternoon will be free to relax. You will overnight again at Shira Campsite. Mt Kilimanjaro Barranco Campsite (FB)Day 4. Today you will hike up to Lava Tower at 4600m above sea level. From there the trail descends gradually to From the camp you will have fantastic views of the Barranco Wall. Mt Kilimanjaro Barafu Camp (FB)Day 5. Your day will begin with a good breakfast to prepare you for the Barranco Wall. The climb to the top takes about 1.5 hrs, a good warm up for the rest of the days hike through Karanga Valley and eventually on to Barafu Camp - 4600m. Barafu means 'ice' in Swahili! Mt Kilimanjaro Uhuru Peak- Mweka Camp (FB)Day 6.You will start the final ascent at about midnight, in order to reach the summit for sunrise. It's about 5-6 hrs steady climb over sand/scree until you arrive at Stella Point on the rim of Kibo Crater. A spectacular sunrise will welcome you! It's then a further 1.5 hrs hike to along the southern rim of the crater until you reach UHURU PEAK the highest point in Africa - 5896m asl. This is the Roof of Africa. You now have about 6 hrs descent to reach Mweka Camp - 3100m where you will have a celebratory dinner and well earned sleep! Mt Kilimanjaro Crane Hotel (FB)Day 7. You now have a leisurely hike back down to Mweka Gate. There will be a Certificate Awards before you are transferred to your hotel in Moshi. |
