6 Days Mt. Nyiragongo Active Volcano Safaris
Mount Nyiragongo is a stratovolcano in the Virunga Mountains associated with the Great Rift Valley. It is located inside Virunga National Park, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The main crater is about two km wide and usually contains a lava lake. The crater presently has two distinct cooled lava benches within the crater walls - one at about 3175m (10,400 ft) and a lower one at about 2975 m (9800 ft). Nyiragongo's lava lake has at times been the most voluminous known lava lake in recent history.
Arrival in Kigali Okapi Hotel (FB)
Day 1. You will arrive in Kigali and be met by the safari guide, then transfer to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Drive to Gisenyi Belevedere hotel Gisenyi (FB)
Day 2. Drive to Gisenyi at the northern shores of Lake Kivu, visit the tea plantations, do some shopping at a farmers market then, have a tour of the city which repeatedly gained tragic publicity in the past decade because of enormous refugee camps, hunger, epidemics and, recently, a devastating volcanic eruption that reminded of the fate of the historic town of Pompeii.
Drive to Goma Camping (FB)
Day 3 &4. Drive to Mount Nyiragongo, active volcano in the Virunga Mountains of east-central Africa. It lies in the volcano region of Virunga National Park, Congo (Kinshasa), near the border with Rwanda, 12 miles (19 km) north of Goma. It is 11,385 feet (3,470 metres) high, with a main crater 1.3 miles (2 km) wide and 820 feet (250 metres) deep containing a liquid lava pool. Some older craters on the mountain are noted for their plant life. Nyiragongo is known for its devastating eruptions. In 1977 some 2,000 people were killed, and in 2002 Goma was largely destroyed by lava, creating a refugee crisis. Two nights on the top of an active volcano, thus enhancing their life time experiences of this rare phenomenon, in the world tourism trade industry.
Descend to Goma Hotel ihusi (FB)
Day 5. Descend and drive to the Goma for some excursions. Later proceed to Lake Kivu to check in at Hotel ihusi is a stadard hotel in Goma build near the lake kivu, a great east african lake and safe to swim The hotel has a good lake view and while standing in the ihusi garden the Rwandan mountains can be seen in the background.
Day 6. Wake up in the morning and have breakfast, then drive to Kigali, first have a look at the genocide memorial sites or lively markets in Kigali suburbs enroute and then depart back home.
